Luca Belli, Ph.D.
I recently spent over a year as a UC Berkeley Tech Policy Fellow, and a Visiting AI Fellow at NIST. My work at NIST included co-leading the Red Teaming effort for the Generative AI Public Working Group, working on international standards—including working with ISO.
I was also selected as an expert by the European Commission to help with the delegated act of Article 40 of the Digital Services Act
Before that, I was at Twitter where I co-founded and was the research lead for the Machine Learning Ethics Transparency and Accountability (META) team.
My research interests lie at the intersection of social impact, recsys, feedback loops, algorithmic amplification, and algorithmic audits.
My background is in pure math, with a Ph.D. in complex geometry from the University Tor Vergata in Rome.
